Advanced Horsemanship Program

The need to improve overall horsemanship skills from the trainer to the groom has been a continuing objective identified at the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit. The Advanced Horsemanship Program is a free online educational program developed and hosted by The Jockey Club with content collaboratively designed to support continuing education requirements for those licensed to participate in pari-mutuel racing.

Groom Elite

An educational program supported by financial contributions from The Jockey Club, Groom Elite educates and enhances horsemanship skills for grooms and caregivers.

Jack Goodman Scholarship

The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship was created in 2007 and is awarded annually to a student at the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program (RTIP). The $6,000 ($3,000 per semester) scholarship is based on academic achievement, proposed career path in the Thoroughbred racing industry, and previous industry involvement. Goodman was a longtime member of The Jockey Club and is one of three founders of the RTIP.

The Jockey Club Scholarship

The Jockey Club Scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $15,000 ($7,500 per semester) to one recipient. Candidates must be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in the equine or applicable field of study that could be applied in the equine industry with preference given to candidates expressing a strong interest in a career in the Thoroughbred industry.

Uniform Trainers Test and Study Guide

The Uniform National Trainers Test was developed after review of the state trainers’ tests and other educational materials. The test is composed of six sections based on the Association of Racing Commissioners International Uniform Model Rules, Racing Medication and Testing Consortium Veterinary Regulations, the Racing Officials Accreditation Program Resource Guide, and individual local state regulations.

University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program

The Jockey Club supports the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program, the only program of its kind offering a bachelor's degree and master's degree centered on the racing industry, through sponsorship of its annual Global Symposium on Racing & Gaming and by offering The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship.
